The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of group counselling targeting mothers having
senior student in the elementary school on maternal depression, self-esteem, self-concept clarity. With
experimental groups 8 and control groups 8 among 16 mothers of the upper grade children in K
elementary school located in K city, after a total of 8 sessions, and group counseling was conducted for
100 minutes per session, pre and post-test were implemented. Data were analyzed by Mann-Whitney U test.
The results showed that self - concept clarity was significantly improved in experimental group who
participated in group counseling for self-concept clarity improvement than in the control group. This shows
that the program is effective in enhancing self-concept clarity. In addition, depression was significantly
lower in the experimental group than in the control group, and self - esteem was significantly higher. Also,
self-concept clarity improved highly. The results of this study suggest that the improvement of the self -
concept of mothers having the upper grades children in elementary school has an effect on decreasing
depression incidentally. It is also suggested that there is a positive effect on enhancing mother's self-esteem.
