The purpose of this study was to review a number of single-subject experimental designs for research and teaching. Before discussing specific designs, some terms basic to an understanding of experimental investingation were defined. Each design has described procedures for implementation, graphic representation, data analysis and to enable researchers to determine the functional relationship between an instruction and a behavior. The single- subject experimental design is the systematic analysis of data collected in a planned and organized form that distinguishes the applied behavior analyst from the mere behavior modifier. The teacher who is familiar with design can quickly evaluate the results of one's own instruction and ultimately share these results with others. The continuing process of applied behavior analysis results more effective teaching that is ultimately reflected in more adaptive academic and social behavior of students.
