현재 한국사회에서 관행화되어 있는 학업성취 중심의 수월성 추구는 시대적 적합성 을 결여하고 있는 것으로 판단된다. 또한 그것은 필연적으로 평등성 추구와 끊임없는 갈등을 초래하게 되어 있다. 따라서 이 시대가 요구하는 진정한 수월성을 구현하고 평 등성과의 조화도 이루어내기 위해서는 기존 교육패러다임이 획기적으로 바뀔 필요가 있다. 특히 학업성취 중심의 수월성 추구와 획일적 교육기회 보장에 초점을 맞춘 평등 성 추구는 지식기반사회에서 요구되는 다원적이고 수평적인 능력관에 조응하는 방향으 로 모두 질적인 변화가 이루어져야 한다. 이는 궁극적으로 학생들의 다양한 능력, 소질, 적성에 두루 관심을 갖고 그것을 최대한 계발하는 것을 지향하는 맞춤식 개별화 교육 을 통해 구현될 수 있을 것이다.
It is thought that the current pursuit of excellence in Korea, based on academic achievement, is not suitable to the current times. It also inevitably results in endless conflicts with the pursuit of equality. Therefore, the current education paradigm has to be drastically changed in order for education to embody the genuine excellence demanded by today while being compatible with equality. Especially, excellence based on academic achievement and equality based on ensuring equal educational opportunities have to be pursued in a direction corresponding to the development of pluralistic and horizontal abilities required by knowledge-based society. This change is ultimately possible through a thorough concern for various abilities, characters, and aptitudes of the students and maximizing their development through education customized to each student\'s needs.
