초등학교 아동의 색채 선호도 연구

초등학생들의 색채 선호도에 관한 연구는 그 동안 여러 나라 학자들에 의해 이루어져 왔으나 그대로 믿고 학생지도에 적용하기에는 다소 무리한 점이 있었다. 색채 선호경향은 지역, 민족, 연령에 따라서 다르고, 같은 지역 같은 연령이라 하더라도 조사 당시의 사회적 환경이나 교육정도 등에 따라서도 다르다. 그래서 다른 나라 학자들의 조사가 우리의 현실에는 맞지 않을 가능성이 많다. 실제로 Garth, Alschulor, Hattwick, Faber Birren, Valentine 등 여러 학자들의 연구 결과를 보면 그 내용이 일치하지 않는 점이 많다. 국내의 몇몇 학자들도 색채 선호도에 관한 연구를 한 학자들이 있다. 그러나 조사 대상에서 연령적으로 본 논문과는 대상자가 다르고 조사 대상 인원수도 많지 않아 일반화시키는데는 무리가 있었다. 아동들의 선호색 성향을 정확하게 아는 것은 다음과 같이 여러 면에서 유리한 점이 있다. 먼저 아동들을 이해하는데 도움이 된다. Alschuler, Lembke, Napoli, 久保 등의 연구결과 좋아하는 색채와 성격, 많이 쓰는 색채와 현재의 심리상황은 밀접한 관련이 있다는 결론에 비추어 봐서 선호색 연구는 아동을 이해하는데 많은 정보를 제공해 줄 것이라 생각한다.

영문초록

This paper surveyed the color preference of 1400 elementary school students in Seoul. Contents : The analyzed contents regard general color preference, color preference for both boys and girls, color preference for each grade, and the color preference of each boy and girl at each grade level of elementary school. (1) The favorite color of elementary school children is as follows : blue(25.8%), Sky blue(14.6%), yellow(11.5%), pink(9.8%), green(6.9%), white(6.1%), red(4.8%), gold and silver (3.4%), yellow green(3.1%), violet(3.1%), black(3%), dark green(2.2%), etc(2.2%), orange(1.9%), Sea blue(0.6%) (2) Generally boys like cool colors like blue or green, but girls like warm colors such as yellow or pink. The colors rank as follows for boys and girls : Boys : blue(36%), green(10.0%), sky blue(9.3%), red(6.8%), yellow(5.8%), gold and silver(5.5%), black(5.2%), dark green(3.9%), white(3.9%), yellow green(3.8%), violet(3.8%), etc(1.5%), orange(1.4%), pink(1.1%), Sea blue(1.0%), purple(0.1%) Girls : sky blue(20.4%), pink(19.0%), yellow(17.6%), blue(14.7%), white(5.8%), green (3.8%), etc(2.9%), red(2.8%), yellow green(2.5%), orange(1.4%), violet(2.4%) (3) Students of higher grade levels prefer blue, sky blue, white, etc(kings of cold color), and they like red, yellow, pink, gold and silver(kings of warm color)less, grades ｢As girls reach the higher grade levels, it appears that the number of girls who love yellow and pink become less｣ Where as, as boys reach the higher grade levels, they continue to prefer green, blue and sky blue, and the number of boys liking such colors increases.
