This essay aims to explore the research paradigm of Pansori contributing to cope with the threat of modern society. For this purpose, I divided previous Pansori studies into three paradigms and evaluated both the significance and the limit. It is the interest in substance of Pansori that is dominating paradigm among previous Pansori studies. It is a series of intertextuality sudies, as study of generic origin, source story, inserted song, and generic intercourse. These are the research to demonstrate the past of Pansori. But the research of Pansori need to analyse the present of Pansori, in other words the discoursive influence of Pansori. It can be prescribed as study of practicality. Another paradigm is narratolgy of Pansori. The narrator in Pansori narrative has unique appearance and play an unique role. By the way, narratolgy of Pansori can describe only the superficial aspect. Therefore the uniqueness of Pansori narrator need to be elucidated by cultural approach. It clarifies that the unique appearance and role stems from the expectation of community. And the other is the research of social strata. It is true that Pansori was folk literature. For that reason, Pansori is regarded as the art of populace. But It has grown into a popular culture. Then it is clear that Pansori has wide and open boundary of sympathy. The research of Pansori need to focus on the human truth, the key of expansive sympathy. As these paradigm is successfully executed, the task of the modernization and globalization of Pansori will be accomplished naturally. The final conclusion of this essay is as follows ; The research of literature must belong to human study, investigating texture of human life.
