‘사혼굿’은 미처 혼례를 치르지 못하고 죽은 이들의 넋을 결합시켜 모든 것이 본연의 질서로 환원되기를 기원하는 무의식이다. 그런데 전체 진행이 무(巫)의 가장(假裝)에 의한 제주와의 대화라는 점에서 이미 연극적인 성향을 지니고 있다. 또한 독특한 무대배경, 극적인 언어와 몸짓, 그리고 유기적인 패턴 등이 조화롭게 어우러져 지극한 감동과 극적인 효과까지 거두고 있다. 따라서 ‘사혼굿’을 고도의 상징성을 띤 ‘연극적 제의’라고 할 수 있다. ‘사혼굿’의 무대는 상징에 의한 기호로서 신방을 형상화하고 있다. 배우는 각 거리마다 해당신으로 분해 리얼한 연기를 창출하며, 이에 극적 상상력과 분위기가 고조되고 있다. 관객은 능동적인 참여자로 제의와 교감을 이루면서 전체 진행의 의미를 자신의 것으로 생산하고 있다. 희곡은 ‘한의 해소’로 구조화되어 있다. 그리고 제주는 무대에서 그들의 좌절과 미련을 재현하면서 감정의 정화를 경험하고 있다. 이미 응어리진 결과와 다른 어떤 결과를 얻어내려는 노력으로 볼 수 있는데, 사혼이 곧 이러한 노력의 결실이다. 이로써 무대가 치유의 장이 되고 있다.
Sahon\'s exorcism is the supplicating consciousness of restoring to all kinds of things original state which combined with a soul of the unmarried people. The master of religious rites acquire the vision of solution as reappearing the dramatic situation and event of the former\'s experience. This is accomplished by an exorcist\'s performance, the organic processing of event and the sympathy of the master of religious rites and spectator. Therefore, the Sahon\'s exorcism is the dramatic ritualism with the highest symbolism. This treatise deals with the problem : the existence and effect of sahon\'s exorcism in unconsciousness\'s scene. The rites\'s stage is shaped as a symbol of bride chamber. The characters of ritualism is embodied by an exorcist\'s change. Also, the dramatic imagination and mood grows more and more through the realistic acting. The spectator take part in the rite as the active conductor by mutual rapports with the ritualism. The drama is structured by solving a bitter feeling, the processing is structured by organic unity. The master of ritualism experiences purifying the emotion by reappearing the breakdown and regret in the stage. As a consequence, the state becomes the theatre of recovering the soul.
