본 연구는 서울 시내 및 근교에 위치한 유치원 및 어린이집에 재학 중인 58명의 아동과 그 아버지들을 대상으로 아동의 부정적 정서에 대한 아버지의 반응이 아동이 아버지를 어떤 존재로 인식하는지에 미치는 영향을 알아보려 하였다. 아버지들의 정서적 반응을 측정하기 위해 Coping with Children\'s Negative Emotions Scale(CCNES)을 번역하여 사용하였고 아동의 아버지에 대한 표상은 애착 이야기 완성 과제에서 아동이 만든 이야기의 내용을 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 아동들의 아버지에 대한 표상은 도움을 주는 대상, 아동을 지키는 대상, 애정의 대상, 일하는 대상, 집안 갈등의 대상, 처벌하는 대상의 여섯 가지로 분류되었으며, 여아가 남아보다 아버지를 애정의 대상으로 표상한 반면, 남아는 여아보다 아버지를 일하는 대상으로 표상하는 것으로 나타났다. 특히, 도움을 주는 대상으로의 표상은 아버지의 스트레스 반응에 부적 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났으며 반대로 아버지의 문제 중심 반응과 정서 중심 반응과는 정적 관련성이 있는 것으로 보고되었다. 그러나 문제 중심 반응과 정서 중심 반응은 아동을 지키는 대상으로서의 아버지에 대한 표상에는 부적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났는데 이러한 결과들은 자율성을 강조하는 권위가 있는 아버지의 양육태도 및 성역할 모델과 관련하여 논의되었다.
The primary purpose of this study was to examine the influence of fathers\' reactions to children\'s negative emotions on children\'s mental representations of fathers. Fifty-eight preschool/kindergarten children and their fathers who lives in Seoul and its vicinity participated in this study. A Korean version of the Coping with Children\'s Negative Emotions Scale(CCNES) was administered to the fathers, and children were interviewed using five stories in the Attachment Story Completion Task. Children\'s narratives were analyzed and six types of the representation of fathers were identified: figures for help, for protection, for love, for work, for family conflict, and for punishment. Fathers\' distress reactions were negatively, but problem-focused reactions and emotion-focused reactions were positively related to children\'s positive representation of fathers. The findings of this study were discussed in terms of authoritative parenting behaviors and gender role model in the socialization of emotion.
