The purpose of the study was to survey teachers\' awareness of the quality of
assessment tools for elementary school social studies. The subjects for the
questionnaire were 475 elementary school teachers in Kyonggi and Inchon areas.
Four criteria of validity, reliability, objectivity, and practicality were used as the
measures that evaluate the quality of assessment tools for elementary school social
studies. The questionnaire consists of 22 items in the four criteria, and the
subjects\' responses were analyzed by Chi-square (χ2) test, according to their
gender or teaching career.
Chapter One stated the need and purpose of the study, and the scope and
method of the study.
Chapter Two reviewed theories about criteria for evaluating the quality of
assessment tools and related researches, and presented some hypotheses.
Chapter Three presented some interpretation about the teachers\' responses to
the questionnaire, and tested the null hypothesis that teachers\' awareness of the
quality of assessment tools will not make any difference by their gender or
teaching career.
Chapter Four made suggestions that (1) assessment tools satisfying the quality
criteria should be developed, gone through on-site testing and generalized, and (2)
further study should be done, using different subjects and methods.
