This was a survey research to understand the perceptions of kindergarten
teachers and elementary school teachers regarding the parents\' participation. To
achieve this purpose, a questionnaire of 32 items across 5 sub-categories was
administered to 93 kindergarten teachers and 167 elementary school teachers in
Kyunggido area. T-test and one-way ANOVA were used to analyze the data.
The results of the study were as follows;
(1) Both kindergarten teachers and elementary school teachers had positive
attitude toward the importance of parents\' participation. But kindergarten teachers
put more focus on parents\' participation than elementary school teachers.
(2) Both kindergarten teachers and elementary school teachers showed their
preference in the following order; instructors, mediators, self -developers, decision
makers, and supporters.
(3) From the parents\' participation perspective, roles as supporters and decision
makers were considered the least concerned comparatively.
(4) Kindergarten teachers who were high educated, mid thirties or over, had
more positive attitudes towards the parents\' participation than the rest of the
group.
(5) Elementary school teachers who were women, mid twenties or older, in
charge of low graders, had more positive attitudes towards the parents\'
participation than the rest of the group.
