Discussion was made on the use of church space as one alternative solution to overcome major church criticism where the Korean society criticize Korean churches for not servicing or sharing with the general society. That is, by opening the church space to local community and providing various programs customized to the district environment, the need of the people in the region could be satisfied and the church can pro-actively realize the ministry of service to its region. As understanding on utilizing church space comes prior to the actual discussion on specific methods of utilizing the space, the following were explained. First, in order to fulfill the mission of service out of the missions of church, the church need to be opened to the public and form organic relationship with the local community and respond to the need of district people. Second, it should be understood that it is only right to share and use the space and facilities of the church with the neighboring community in the name of Christ and that church opening is necessary but there should be a limit in order to prevent secularization of the church. Third, in order to become a church actually needed in the local society, human resource, financial resource, various organizations within the church, church space and facilities should be secured and used. Next, the necessity of utilizing church space is explained by narrating on fundamental mission and efficient use of space. When churches serve district people by utilizing church space, the essential mission of church, which is evangelism, will have its contact point maximized, and the virtues of sharing and servicing can be realized. When the church space does not remain a closed and wasted area but when the building and space become utilized economically for various purposes, efficient use of space takes place. Lastly, measures on utilizing church space were described. First of all, 21st Century is a period of megatrend. Pastors need to change perspective and adapt to the new times. 21st Century is about service, fulfilling various needs, and is a period where individuals matter. It is important to change the paradigm to adapt to this changing environment. That is, the ministry should move from centering around church and pastor to focus on congregation and closed ministry should convert to open ministry. Also, the change of church construction is also important. Rather than church building that focus on worship space that has feeling of oppression and too much authority, space and resource should be utilized to build practical church building that can serve its district people better. Lastly, development of space use program with considerations to regional characteristic and mobilizing district volunteers are important as well. Church cannot exist separate from the local society. The characteristics of the district people should be well identified and various programs be developed and applied according to the region. In particular, district volunteers should be raised to enable smooth servicing of district people. Also, it is important to cooperate with other churches or different organizations in order to achieve effective district service, and regional cooperative network need to be established for this. In conclusion, the period request churches to open its space and make use of it for local community. Not only that, using church resource is basic preparation for the church to conduct educational, cultural and welfare activities for the local community. Through these preparations, the church can help social welfare for the local district. When churches fulfil and act on this, it becomes a role model that lives and breathes as a member of the community within the local district. This is the role which the church should take on to show love to its local community and is a short-cut to evangelism.
