The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship of degree of functional vision, primary source of support, and previous work experience to employment outcomes among former Michigan Commission for the Blind (MCB) customers who are visually impaired or blind.One-hundred twenty-eight former MCB customers whose cases were closed as either successfully employed or unsuccessfully employed during fiscal years 2003 and 2004 were examined via mail survey. A series of chi-square analysis indicated that MCB customers who had a previous work experience were more likely to be closed as employed than those who did not have any work experience. However, no statistically significant relationship was found between employment outcomes and the degree of functional vision. Similarly, there was no statistically significant relationship between primary source of support and employment outcomes among participants. Implications for vocational rehabilitation practice as well as suggestions for future rehabilitation research are provided.
이 연구는 2003 년과 2004 년 사이에 미시간 주 시각장애인 재활국에서 서비스를 받은 128 명의 시각장애인들을 대상으로 잔존시력, 주요 소득원, 장애 이전 직업 유ㆍ무와 이들의 고용성과 사이의 관계를 조사한 것이다. 카이검정 결과 실명 이전 직업 경험을 가진 시각장애인들이 그렇지 않은 이들에 비해재활서비스를 받은 후 고용을 획득할 가능성이 더 높은 것으로 조사되었다. 하지만, 이들의 고용성과와 잔존시력 잎 주요 소득원 사이에는 통계적으로 유의미한 관계가 존지하지 않는 것으로 나타녜다. 이 연구의 연구결과가 재활 서비스 제공에 미치는 함의와 직업재활 분야 연구에 대한 제언을 소개하였다.
