본 연구는 아동의 성취동기가 아동이 지각한 가족기능 및 귀인양식과 어떠한 관계가 있는지를 파악하고자 하였다. 아동의 거주 지역에 따른 성취동기 차이도 살펴보고자 연구대상을 대도시인 서울시, 중소도시인 경기도 의정부시, 그리고 소도시인 충청남도 서산시에 있는 초등학교 5학년 아동들 420명을 조사하였다. 가족기능은 가족응집성과 가족융통성으로, 아동의 귀인양식은 성공상황과 실패상황 각각에 대해 능력, 노력, 과제난이도, 운의 네 가지 귀인을 조사하였다. 연구결과, 아동의 성취동기는 중상수준으로 높게 나타났으며, 대도시와 중소도시에 거주하는 아동이 소도시의 아동보다, 여아가 남아보다, 그리고 부모의 교육수준이 높은 경우에 높게 나타났다. 그러나 이러한 사회인구학적 변인에 의한 성취동기 수준의 차이는 가족기능 및 귀인양식과 함께 설명할 때는 나타나지 않았다. 가족기능이 높은 설명력을 보이고 있었으며 귀인양식에서는 성공상황에서 능력과 노력귀인이, 실패상황에서 능력귀인이 성취동기를 의미 있게 설명하였다. 가족응집성과 융통성이 높은 것이, 성공을 능력과 노력으로 귀인 하는 것이 아동의 높은 성취동기를 설명하였고 실패를 능력으로 귀인 하는 것은 아동의 낮은 성취동기를 설명하였다. 이러한 결과는 가족이라는 환경이 아동의 성취동기에 큰 영향을 미치며 능력귀인이 성공 또는 실패상황에 따라 성취동기에 다른 방향으로 영향을 준다는 점을 시사한다.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between children\'s achievement motivation and family function and attribution style. Additionally, to investigate the differences in achievement motivation due to area of residence, the data were collected in the capital (Seoul), in a small city (Uijeongbu) and in a small town (Seosan). The subjects were 420 fifth grade elementary school children. Family function consisted of family cohesion and flexibility, and attribution style consisted of ability, effort, task difficulty, and luck in situations of both success and failure. The results showed that children who lived in a large city, and had parents with higher educational levels showed higher achievement motivation levels than those who lived in a small town and whose parents had lower educational levels. Moreover, girls had high achievement motivation than boys. There was a positive correlation between achievement motivation and family function as perceived by the children, such as family cohesion and family flexibility. However these differences disappeared when family functions and attribution style were added to the equation as an explanation of achievement motivation. Family cohesion, family flexibility, ability and effort attribution in situations of success and ability attribution in situations of failure were the important factors influencing the achievement motivation of children. While ability attribution in situations of success explained higher levels of achievement motivation, ability attribution in situations of failure helped explained lower achievement motivation. This means that ability attribution had a different directional influence according to whether the situation was one of failure or.
