As industrialization increases and science influences contemporary world to be an aging society, it is going through the conspicuous transition of family forms and functions. Among them, the problem of senior citizens and the increase of low-income ·one parent family has emerged socioculturally.
Accordingly our society demands proper measures for the radical increase of the senior citizen and low-income ·one parent children population, so this study was performed to examine DMT Mentoring program\'s effect on both the elderly\'s self-worth, emotional expression, role modeling, understanding of family relation and the children\'s depression, anxiety, problem behavior.
DMT Mentoring program for the elderly and low-income·one parent children has an positive effect physically, emotionally and psychologically through physical activities, body contact, emotional exchange and a mentor is able to help a less experience person to find one\'s potential and experience positive exchanges to adjust to a society healthily.
DMT Mentoring program was implemented to reduce depression, anxiety and problem behaviors through self-awareness, other-awareness, self-control, positive expression and relationship. The elderly\'s self-worth, emotional expression, role modeling, understanding of family relation was aimed as well. DMT was executed for one hour once a week(10 sessions) for the elderly and children respectively and Mentoring program (two hours once a week, 6 sessions) was organized and facilitated by the writer of this paper. For this study, Children\'s Depression Inventory(CDI), Children\'s Manifest Anxiety Scale(RCMAS), The Teacher-Child Rating Scale (T-CRS) were used to measure the children\'s depression, anxiety and problem behaviors. For the elderly, the emotional and social experiences(self-worth through helping, a sense of belonging, a skill of getting along with others, emotional expression, role modeling, understanding of family relationship) were examined after the program.
The result was as follows : the degree of the depression of the participant(child) was lowered from (M=45.67) to (M=38.39) after the program. Anxiety decreased from (M=49.00) to (M=40.06). They made a meaningful difference statistically. The level of problem behaviors that a teacher assessed decreased from (M=50.17) to (M=43.39). Regarding the emotional and social experiences of the elderly, the result was as follows : understanding of family relationship(85%), a skill of getting along with others(71.4%), self-worth through helping others(64.28%).
This study suggests that DMT Mentoring program for the elderly and low-income ·one parent children had an effect on the self-confidence, negative somatic symptoms, curiosity of the children positively to reduce the anxiety of the children. DMT Mentoring program also reduced the anxiety, anger impulse, physical and physiological exhibition to lower the anxiety of the child. The level of children\'s problem behaviors was also lowered effectively. Regarding the elderly, DMT Mentoring program had an positive effect on the emotional and social experiences(self-worth through helping, a sense of belonging, a skill of getting along with others, emotional expression, role modeling, understanding of family relationship).
