The purpose of this study is to inquire from the point of the education for sustainable
development how the child-care center teachers perform the water education, and how they perceive
it, and what kinds of needs they have in order to perform it desirably. As a methodology of this
study, 280 questionnaires to child-care center teachers had been used. We found the result as
follows; 1. Although water related activities are occurred every day, the child-care center teachers
were inclined to take the water education as not something informal, that happens naturally in
everyday life, but something formally preplanned. 2. The child-care center teachers perceive not only
the water shortage problem as a serious matter regardless of their age, career, scholastic background,
institutional type, the children's age in charge of the class, or type of working area, but also the
necessity of water education. However, they did not consider the water problem in the dimension of
education of sustainable development. 3. The child-care center teachers felt that they were very
incapable of practicing the water education from the view-point of the education for sustainable
development. Therefore, they asked an education of teachers in relation to the education of
sustainable development, and a development for the water education program, teaching materials, and
the definite curriculum contents, which can be applied in relation to children's home, from that
perspective.
