본 연구는 초등학생들의 기후변화에 대한 개념 이해를 조사하고자 하였다. 대부분의 초등학생들은 기후변화를 갑작스런 기상의 변화라고 인식하고 있었으며 자신은 이에 대해 정확 한 개념을 갖고 있지 않다고 응답하였다. 또한 상당수의 초등학생들은 기후변화를 날씨의 변화 혹은 대기활동에 의한 변화라고 이해하고 있었다. 기후변화가 나타나는 원인에 대해서는 인간 에 의한 환경 파괴, 무분별한 개발 때문이라고 인식하고 있었으며, 기상이변, 지구온난화 등을 기후변화로 인해 나타나는 주요 영향으로 인식하고 있었다. 초등학생들은 전반적으로 기후변화 와 관련된 개념을 지구온난화, 기상이변 등의 개념과 서로 혼동하여 이해하고 있는 것으로 나타 났다. 또한 기후변화의 의미, 원인, 영향 등을 개념적으로 서로 혼동하고 있어 기후변화에 대한 교육의 필요성을 시사하고 있었다. 따라서 초등학생들을 위한 기후변화의 개념에 대한 체계적 인 교육을 위한 교육 프로그램의 개발이 필요하다.
The purpose of this study was to survey the elementary school students’ conceptions about the climate change. Most participants responded that they did not possess a correct understanding of climate change; for example, the climate change was the abrupt change of weather or atmosphere, and it occurred due to the human activities such as the excessive use of fossil fuels and the emission of greenhouse gases. Many students were confused about the effects of climate change. For example, the climate change resulted in global warming and extreme weather. In addition, participants were confused about the climate change, global warming, extreme weather. These results implied that the participants were confused, not being able to discern one from another among the factors including concept, cause, result, and the influence of climate change. It is, therefore, suggested effective teaching programs about the climate change be developed for elementary level.
