The importance of school counseling for students with disabilities who have psychological
and social problems in inclusive education settings has been increased. Currently, therefore,
school counselors were asked to understand the basic concept of special education and
student's characteristics depending on the types of disabilities, and to develop their
competence in planning and providing school counseling for students with disabilities. This
study conducted the surveys with 107 preserivce school counselors to analyzed any changes
in their understanding of special education and disabilities, their competence as school
counselors for students with disabilities, and their perception and attitude toward school
counseling for students with disabilities through the counseling course for students with
disabilities. The results of this study showed that after the 15-week counseling course for
students with disabilities, the preservice school counselors' understanding of special
education and disabilities, competence as school counselors for students with disabilities, and
perception and attitude toward school counseling for students with disabilities were
significantly improved. Based on these results, this study discussed how the counseling
courses for students with disabilities were developed and managed to improve preservice
school counselors' competence in providing school counseling for students with disabilities
