본 연구는 교원 양성기관과 현장교육과의 연계방안이 다각도로 모색될 필요성이 절박한 지금 필자가 소속된 사범대학에서 바로 그러한 목적으로 지난 5년여 전부터 실시해온 「교과 교육 실습 」과목의 운영 실태를 점검하고 앞으로의 개선 방향을 모색하기 위한 것이다. 이를 위하여 2003학년도 1학기에 이 과목을 선택한 학생들과 겸임교수로 임명되어 그들을 지도한 사범대학 부속 중등학교 교사들을 대상으로 설문조사를 하였으며 그 결과를 분석하여 다음과 같은 제언을 한다. 첫째, 현 겸임교수제도는 자격기준의 강화, 학생 배치의 균형성 보완 등이 필요하지만 유지하는 것이 바람직 할 것이다. 둘째, 「교과 교육 실습」과목의 수강 시기는 3학년 1학기와 2학기로 하고 교과와 비교과 영역에서 균등하게 현장 경험을 하도록 한다. 셋째, 수강신청을 정규과목과 같은 시기에 하여 부속 중등학교에 미리 통고함으로서 겸임교수들에게 시간표를 작성하고 현장 실습 지도를 준비할 여유를 준다. 넷째, 교과와 비교과 영역에서 중요하게 다루어져야할 내용들을 포함하는 「교과 교육 실습」지침서를 마련하여 겸임교수들에게 배포한다.
This study is to suggest some ways to improve a field experience program for would-be secondary school teachers in Korea. Through the literature review, the writer shows how important the field experience is and how foreign higher educational institutions run their field experience and practice teaching programs. She then discusses the survey result of both teachers and students who participated in the field experience program in the attached secondary schools of a university. Her suggestions are as follows: (1) the current system needs to be improved with higher qualifications for participating secondary school teachers and better student assignment to each of them; (2) the course should be offered during the junior year covering both subject matter and teachers' general job; (3) registration for the course should be done during their official registration period rather than after classes begin; and (4) more specific guidelines for the program should be provided to the teachers concerning what to teach. It is hoped that other teacher education institutions develop similar field experience programs with cooperating secondary schools nearby.
