향심기도 체험에 대한 질적 연구

본 연구는 관상기도(Contemplation)의 한 방법으로 향심기도(Centering Prayer) 할 때 나타나는 내적 변형 과정을 알아보기 위한 향심기도 체험에 대한 질적 연구이다. 연구를 위해 1회 향심기도에 대한 소개 피정과 6주 후속 프로그램을 마치고 하루 2회 40분 이상, 일주일에 6-7일, 3년 넘게 향심기도를 하고 있는 9명의 연구 참여자에게 향심기도 중의 체험과 향심기도 후 일상생활에서의 체험에 대한 연구 질문을 바탕으로 질적 연구를 실시하였다. 자료 분석은 합의적 질적 연구 방법(Consensual Qualitative Research)으로 하였고, 연구자의 편향된 분석을 피하고자 연구자를 포함한 4명의 평정자와 1명의 감사가 자료 분석에 참여하였다. CQR에 따라 향심기도 체험내용을 분석한 결과 3개의 영역에서 30개의 범주가 형성되었다. 이렇게 형성된 3개의 영역은 ‘향심기도 중의 체험’과 ‘향심기도 후 일상생활에서의 변화’, 그리고 ‘향심기도 후 일상생활에서의 변화를 일으키는 요인’ 등이다. 자료 분석을 통해 향심기도 중에 일어나는 치유의 과정과 향심기도 후 일상생활에서의 통합적 변화, 그리고 향심기 도에서의 ‘긍정적인 정서 체험’에 대해 논의하였다. 본 연구의 의의를 살펴보면 첫째, 향심기도 체험에 대해 합리적 질적 연구 방법으로 이루어진 첫 연구이다. 둘째, 향심기도 체험을 통해 하느님과의 일치로 나아가는 내적 변형의 과정을 명료화하여 심리 치료적 기제들에 대한 정보를 제공한다. 셋째로 본 연구를 통하여 향심기도 수련에 대한 친밀감을 높이고, 하느님과의 일치로 나아가는 내적 변형 과정에 대한 올바른 이해를 도울 수 있다.

영문초록

This study is a qualitative research to examine the inner process of transformation which is seen during Centering Prayer. For this study, 9 participants took part in this qualitative research. It was conducted with the questionnaire to find out 9 participants' experiences during Centering Prayer and in their normal life after the program. The analysis of the data was conducted with CQR(Consensual Qualitative Research) and by 4 judges and one auditor to avoid the researcher's bias. Through the CQR method, it was the result of analysis of the contents of their Centering Prayer experiences that showed three domains and thirty categories. This three domains included 'experiences during Centering Prayer', 'changes after practicing Centering Prayer' and 'factors which causes changes in their normal life'. Therefore, inner transformation by Centering Prayer was circulative. Moreover, integrative changes in their normal life and constant praying showed gradual and spiral transformative process into the unity with God. Through the analysis of this research data, it discussed healing process during Centering Prayer, integrative changes in normal life and 'positive emotional experience' in normal life after the prayer. The meaning of this study was as follows : First, it was the first research by CQR about experiences of Centering Prayer. Second, through the Centering Prayer experiences, it provided information of psychotherapeutic mechanism by clarification of inner transformative process into the unity with God. Third, it can raise the intimacy with Centering Prayer and help understanding of inner process. it is hoped that many research methods about Centering Prayer be activated. Also, various academic approaches to the holistic and integrative person is needed. Especially, it is expected to find out the mechanism applicable to the counseling and psychotherapy through psychological approach.
