The purpose of this study was to find out various aspects of recognition and
attitude of elementary general teachers to student with disabilities. To this end,
this study conducted in-depth interviews with 65 teachers who have experience
operating an integrated classroom in an elementary school. The results of this
study can be summarized as follows; Generally, teachers displayed both complex
and subtle recognition and attitudes towards student with disabilities. For
example they treated regular students and students with disabilities similarly but
they have a craving to avoid or deny student with disabilities. These recognition
and attitudes are embodied and changed by direct meeting with student with
disabilities. The factors that influenced recognition and attitude were‘experience
related to students with disabilities’, ‘experience related to inclusive
education’, ‘general teacher's personal experience’ and ‘experience related
to normal students’.
