The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences in the Social Problem Solving(SPS)
according to ages of children. The subjects were 3,4,5-year -old children from D kindergarten of D
city, 20, 20, 20 children respectively. For 10 weeks, subjects’ SPS behaviors were observed and daily
episodes were recorded at free-chosen activity classes, and observed behaviors and records were further
analyzed. The results showed that the purposes of SPS have meaningful differences among ages in
“interception”, “monopolization”, etc except in “interruption”. Analysis of SPS strategies revealed that
Level 0 and Level 2 strategies have no statistically relevant differences among ages, but that Level 1
strategies have statistically relevant differences among ages. Children’s SPS behavior subjects were
“same gender classmates” - “opposite gender classmates” - “teacher” - “complex” in order of
preference, showing that children prefer interaction with same gender classmates the most.
