This study aims at providing fundamental materials for effective physical education by : 1) identifying how much knowledge primary school teachers hae in order to offer physical educaion ; and 2) affording the teachers an apportunity and knowledge in terms of self- examination on physical educaion they are giving. Questionnaires for this study were distributed to elementary school teachers working in the Chungcheongnamdo Provincem who was chosen by simple random sampling The questionnaire included 4 questions about background information of how professional knowledge regarking curriculum is formed and 30 questions about 4 indicidual sections of teaching knowledge. The preprogrammed SPSS WIN 11.0 was used to process the collected data for frequencies and percentages in terms of every item and kimension Crosstatbs was employed to examine differences between groups concerning teaching kowledge and t-test and one-way analysis of cariace to examing differences of teaching kowledge based on gender and career Conclusion is as follows. How professional knowldege regarding curriculum is formed First, demonstrating the level of learned exercising skill was the most responded item in terms of the recognition which means comprehend the physical educaion. It differed significantly based on gender but not on career. Second, understanding students body and psychological state was first ranked for the essential quality of a physical educator and an expert. It differed significantly base on gender, but not on career statistically. Third, the reason for gining physical education was mostly for mental and psychological development and the same result was obtained from both men and women. It differed differed considerably based on genderm but not on career statistically. Fourth what makes students think the physical educations is difficult was mainly the lack of teachers teaching skill and there was amililar tendency for both men and wome. It differed considerably based on gender but not on career. Teaching knowledge Analysis in dimentions of teaching objective, curriculum understanding students and teaching strategy First , men were more knowledgeable than women about teaching objective ot the physical educaion wetp up in the 8th curriculum and it differed significantly based on both gender and career . I n essence men and teachers with much career had a higher level of knowldge on recognition reasibility and clearnessin terms of the teaching objective Especially teachers with 10-15 years of career had a higher level of knowledge on the clearness of teaching objective .
