본 연구는 보훈섬김이에 대한 심리적 건강생태와 직무만족도 수준을 파악하여 이들 을 위한 복지지원 정책을 제시하여 국가보훈처에서 정책지원을 위한 기초자료를 제 시하기 위해 수행되었다.구체적인 내용을 살펴보면 다음과 같다.첫째,보훈섬김이 일반적 특성에 따른 자아존중감 수준을 살펴보면 학력은 고학력자,다세대,기혼자에 게서 높게 나타났다.둘째,업무 특성에 따른 자존감 수준은 경제수준이 높을수록,업 무스트레스는 적을수록 자존감이 높게 나타났다.보훈섬김이의 일반적 특성에 따른 삶의 질 수준을 분석해보면 학력은 고학력자,부부세대,기혼자에게서 높게 나타났다. 보훈섬김이의 건강 및 직무만족도 증진 방안을 위한 정책 지원이 필요한데 세부적인 방안을 제시하면 다음과 같다.첫째,보훈섬김이가 담당하는 국가유공상이자 수에 있 어 전체 80.6%가 1명당 10-12명을 담당하고 있어 보훈요양관리 인원이 너무 많아 효 율적인 관리를 기대하기 어렵다.이를 위한 해결 방안은 1인당 7-8명 선으로 줄이는 방안이 필요하고 특히,대상자 선정 시 중증 요보호 환자를 고려한 담당배분 방식을 고려하는 방안이 필요하다.둘째,보훈섬김이의 경우 전체 대상자 중 84%가 월 평균 100만원의 매우 낮은 임금 수준으로 근무하고 있어 이에 적절한 금전적 보상이 이루 어지도록 중장기적으로 계획을 수립해야 한다.셋째,직무교육의 필요도에서 전체 대 상자의 22%가 응급처치교육,기초의학,인성교육 각각21%,친절교육 순으로 나타났 는데 보훈섬김이 직무 교육 시 전문 응급처치사의 실무교육을 강화하고 건강교육 전 문가를 초빙하여 고혈압 당뇨 뇌졸중,치매 등 만성 생활습관병 및 노인병 질환의 기 초지식 함양 교육이 필요하다.
