The purpose of this study is to develop cognitive-behavioral group counseling program for stroke patients and their families, then to verify the effect of the program for their quality of life. For this study, 5 pairs including stroke patients and families of rehabilitation facilities who got over 24 points on the Mini-Mental State Examination Korea(MMSE-K).
The experimental group had performed 8 sessions for 4 weeks while the control group didn\'t have any programs. The examination of experimental group and control group performed the same test regarding Adult Well being Scale with both pre-test and post-test respectively. Analysis of Covariance(ANCOVA) of SPSS/PC 12.0 program were applied to achieve averages and standard deviation of them and to observe about the effect of their quality of life. And qualitative analysis was applied to investigate the psychological changes of participants.
The results of this study were as follows.
Cognitive-behavioral group counseling program was effective to improve quality of life of stroke patients and their families. They participated in this program eagerly. After attending to the program, participants had psychological comfort, mutual understanding, mutual support and recovery of relationship.
Cognitive-behavioral group counseling program was useful to decrease depression tendency and stress of dependent family and to increase quality of life and motivation of rehabilitation.
