The purpose of this study is to verify the influences of group art therapy on school adaptation, depression, and self-esteem for juveniles who failed to adapt to school. 14 first grade students at A middle school in Chungcheong-do were selected for the study and divided into an experimental group (7 students) and a control group (7 students) to verify the effectiveness of therapy groups. Group art therapy consisted of 12 sessions and each session was conducted twice a week for 90 minutes. The measurement tools used in this study were as follows: In order to measure school maladaptation, school adaptation standards developed by Kim Yong-rae (2000) was applied and Beck depression inventory(BDI) developed by Beck (1967) was adapted by Lee Yeong-ho and Song Jong-yong (1991) as a measurement tool for depression. Coopersmith's Self-Esteem Inventory (CSEI) by Coopersmith (1981) was divided into self-acceptance and self-trust and revised and complimented by Jang Eun-jin (2004). The scores by using such tools were analyzed by t-test of SPSS WIN 12.0 program. The results were shown below. Study 1. The influences of group art therapy on the decrease in school maladaptation for female middle school students with school maladaptation were examined. Study 2. The influences of group art therapy on the decrease in depression for female middle school students with school maladaptation were examined. Study 3. The influences of group art therapy on the decrease in self-esteem for female middle school students with school maladaptation were examined. Based on the results of this study, the group art therapy was verified to have positive influences in decreasing school maladaptation and depression, and increasing self-esteem for adolescents with school maladaptation. The group art therapy program helped juveniles increase mental health and adapt to schools and furthermore, it is meaningful that this study provides an opportunity to recognize the probability and necessity of treatment through a medium of art.
