This case reports a cleft palate child with hearing loss and class III malocclusion, who had surgical correction before 12 months. He shows complete closure when swallowing but still has a resonance problem, class III malocclusion, tongue-tie, and hearing loss, which led him serious articulation disorder and language development delay. According to the student information, he was diagnosed as intellectual disability II, transferred to the present residential special school at 4th grade, and learned sign language to communicate fluently. He received speech therapy at the clinical practice center in Sehan university from 11 to 13 years old. Looking at his last test results, the Percent of Correct Consonant (PCC) has improved 14%, the accuracy level still competed with those of 2-3 years children due to structural problem. But the result of the equivalent age of receptive vocabulary (12 years) and test of problem solving (100‰ ranked) revealed that he’s been overcoming the delay of cognitive development caused by language acquisition problem. This case supports the previous studies which report the problem of delay in language or cognitive development of cleft palate child could be resolved after being treated cleft and free from otitis media or velopharyngeal insufficiency. If proper hearing aids are provided and needed surgical procedures for class III malocclusion done, his speech intelligibility is expected to improve more.
