본 연구는 비행으로 인해 보호관찰 중인 청소년 자녀를 둔 어머니의 경험을 깊이 있게 살펴보았다. 보호관찰을 받는 청소년의 지원에 있어 가족을 함께 고려하여 포괄적으로 이해하는 작업은 매우 의미 있는 일이다. 따라서 자녀의 보호관찰 과정을 지켜보는 어머니의 경험을 통해 청소년 당사자는 물론 가족을 포함한 지원방안과 제언을 모색하고자 하는 데 연구의 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 자녀가 보호관찰 중인 어머니를 연구참여자로 선정하여 3회에 걸쳐 심층 인터뷰를 진행하였다. 연구기간은 2015년 8월부터 10월까지 3개월 동안 실시되었다. 연구방법은 질적사례연구방법을 활용하여 분석하였다. 연구 결과 보호관찰 청소년 어머니의 경험은 ‘생지옥에서 마주한 아이의 아픔에 비로소 깨달은 한없이 부족했던 사랑’으로 도출하였다. 연구참여자는 비행을 저지른 아들 때문에 자신이 힘들다고만 생각했었는데 그 이전에 아들을 먼저 이해하려 하기 보다는 무의식중에 상처를 많이 주었던 자신의 모습을 발견하였다. 어머니로서 힘든 자신을 되돌아보면서 어쩌면 더 많이 힘들었을 아이를 이해하게 되었다. 결국 아이가 원했던 충분한 사랑을 주지 못했음을 깨닫고, 미안한 마음을 고스란히 담아 어머니로서 역할을 다하기 위해 노력해 나가고 있었다. 이러한 결과를 통해 자녀가 보호관찰을 받고 있는 어머니들을 지원하기 위한 사회복지적 지원 방안을 제시하였다.
This study seeks to explore the experiences of a mother with juvenile adolescents on probation due to delinquency. It is very important to consider the family environment and support that an at-risk youth receives. The purpose of this study is to examine the efficacy of various measures that the family of at-risk youth can take to help them recover. For this purpose, this study conducted three times in-depth interviews with a mother whose son was on probation. The interviews took place over three months from August to October, 2015. The research method was a qualitative case study. The results of this study emphasized the key phrase “the love despite lack of understanding realized by the pain of my son facing deep hell”. The mother thought it was difficult to support her son, but eventually she acknowledged that she had caused a lot of injuries to her son unconsciously. Looking back at herself as a mother, she came to understand the child and his actions better. She finally realized that she blamed herself for not providing enough love to the child, and that she was filled with pain and regret. The result of this study suggests that a social welfare intervention plan to support mothers whose children are on probation is desperately needed.
