The purpose of this study is to find out the basic concepts on plants that young children build through plant exploration activities by deeply analyzing the concept on plants that young children form in course of plant exploration activities based on nature experiences. Participants for this study were 6 children(boys 3, girls 3) aged 4~5 attending at kindergarten attached to N elementary school in Y City, Gyeonggi-do. This study had been conducted for 13 weeks, 2 or 3 times a week, from April 10th(Tue.) to July 4th(Wed.), 2012. Activities were conducted 30 times flexibly depending on the interests of young children. Data were collected by using triangulation method(Merriam, 1988) to increase validity and reliability of qualitative research through various means such as transcription of recordings, children’s activity pictures, researcher’s field notes and children’s activity outcomes. The analysis of collected data was made by transcription of video recordings, integration of collected data, area analysis, data classification and analysis, and result interpretation. The results of this study are as follows: The concept on plants that young children form in course of plant exploration activities based on nature experiences was shown as 「The plant is a precious being with life」, 「The growth of plants」, 「Changes in plants varying as time goes by」, 「The relationship between plants, animals and humans」, and 「The variety of plants」.
