사마천(司馬遷)의 「사기」(史記)는 인간학의 보고라 할 정도로 다양한 인물들의 성공과 실패, 그리고 자기극복의 과정을 보여주고 있다. 이들의 치열한 삶의 현장은 단순한 과거 역사로 머물지 않고 시대를 초월하여 오늘날의 정치경제, 사회문화에 대한 이해력을 향상시키고 여러 삶의 문제를 해결하는 데에 의미 있는 시사점을 제공하고 있다 하겠다. 그러나 이러한 가치에 비해 「사기」를 교양수업에서 활용한 예는 찾아보기가 힘들다. 이에 본고에서는 「사기」 읽기의 필요성을 제고하고, 이를 토의·토론 및 글쓰기로 연계하는 방안을 찾아보았다. 삶에 정답이 없듯이 「사기」 속 인물들 역시 다양한 해석의 가능성을 남겨두고 있다. 따라서 토의·토론 활동을 통해 인물들을 입체적으로 분석하고, 삶에 대한 물음 자체를 반성적으로 성찰하는 것이 필요하다 할 것이다. 또한 이러한 과정에서 얻어진 최종적인 생각을 글쓰기를 표현해 봄으로써 자기표현능력과 의사소통능력을 신장할 수 있도록 해야 할 것으로 본다. 이는 삶에 대한 통찰력뿐만 아니라 지성인으로서의 자질과 품성을 함양하고, 다양한 삶의 문제를 자신의 삶속에서 구체적으로 적용시킬 수 있는 현장능력을 갖추도록 하는 데 도움이 될 것이라 기대한다.
The Sima Qian’s Shi-Ji shows the process of success and failure and self-overcoming of various characters as a report of anthropology. Their intense life scene provides meaningful implications for improving understanding of today s political economy, society and culture, and for solving many life problems. However, compared to this value, it is difficult to find examples of using Shi-Ji in liberal arts classes. In this paper, I have sought to improve the necessity of reading Shi-Ji and to link them with discussion and writing. Just as there is no right answer to life, the characters in the Shi-Ji also leave the possibility of various interpretations. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the characters in a three-dimensional way through discussion activities and reflexively reflect on the question of life itself. In addition, I think that it should be able to enhance self - expression ability and communication ability by expressing the final thoughts obtained in this process by writing. I hope that this will help not only to gain insight into life but also to cultivate the qualities and personality of intellectuals and to equip them with the field ability to apply various life problems in their lives.
