The purpose of the present study was to elucidate the effect of photography and reporting activities conducted at a day care center on 5-year-old children s verbal expression and peer competence. For this purpose, the experimental group and control group consisted of the 20 Five years old children at D and C kindergarten respectively in G city. The experimental group carried out photography and reporting activities at the day care center. The control group had discussions on feelings about the day care center s routine activities based on daily subjects. A linguistic competence assessment tool was used to measure the children s verbal expression. A teacher s rating scale was applied to measure the children s peer competence. The results are summarized as follows. First, the photography and reporting activities at the day care center had a positive effect on the subareas except for children s total verbal expression and creative expression. Second, the photography and reporting activities at the day care center turned out to have a positive effect on children s total peer competence and its subareas. Therefore, this suggests that photography and reporting activities at day care centers are applicable to early childhood classrooms for the development of children s verbal expression and peer competence.
