The purpose of this study was to research early childhood teacher’s recognition working at kindergarten and day care center in Jeollabuk-do and Jeollanam-do on overall key competencies importance level and key competencies importance level based on background variables as vocational basic education. This study was worthwhile to seek educational methods to enhance key competencies that are important on the job by improving the level of key competencies of pre-service teachers who majored in early childhood education. Findings were as follows: first, self-management competencies was the highest level among the key competencies importance level, followed by communication competencies, personal relations competencies, comprehensive thinking skills, application ability of resources, information and technology and global competencies. Second, as a result of an analysis of the difference of key competencies importance level according to early childhood teacher’s background variables, there was a significant difference between groups in some key competencies according to academic background, ages, career. Based on the results of this study, improvements in the early childhood teacher nurture curriculum to enhance the key competencies as vocational basic education were proposed and based on the limitations of the research, we propose future research projects.
