이 연구는 동물중재 프로그램 구안ㆍ적용을 통하여 시각장애 초등학생의 보행능력과 사회성 향상에 어떤 효과가 있는지를 알아보는데 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 시각장애 초등학교에 재학 중인 2학년 전맹 남학생 2명과 4학년 저시력 남학생 1명, 총 3명을 연구대상으로, 치료도우미견(犬)과 연구자가 구안한 동물중재 프로그램을 약 2개월 동안 16회기를 적용하였으며 중재에 따른 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 동물중재 프로그램 적용이 시각장애 초등학교 학생의 보행능력에 미치는 하위영역인 신체인식과 위치식별, 감각기능 발달, 이동능력 향상에 효과적인 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 동물중재 프로그램 적용이 시각장애 초등학교 학생의 사회성 발달에 미치는 하위영역인 반사회적 부적응 행동과 반항적인 부적응 행동 감소에 효과적인 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 이 연구를 통하여 얻은 결론은 시각장애 영역뿐만 아니라 다른 장애영역에서도 일반화가 가능할 것으로 제안하였다.
This research thesis was aimed at finding out how 'animal assisted program' will have effects on walking ability and social skills among visual handicap elementary pupils. To do it, this thesis conducted a survey of visual handicap elementary pupils: the two blind boys in the second grade, and the one boy with bad sight in the fourth grade. In this regard, 'attending dog helper' and 'animal assisted program' devised by researchers were applied sixteen times for about two months. The research results are as follows: In the first place, 'animal assisted program' can help visual handicap elementary pupils identify, develop and enhance their physical organism, positions, sensory systems and movements as the sub-factors related to walking ability. Second, 'animal assisted program' can help visual handicap elementary pupils reduce antisocial and rebellious ill-adaptation behaviors as the sub-factors related to social development. Thus, this research program can be concluded as being commonly wide-spread to not only visual disorder but also any other disorders.
