The study aims to research the candidates’ traits of the election for superintendent of education in 2014 and 2018, and derive the implications by analyzing the similarities and differences between the candidates. The study examined in 71 candidates for superintendent of education in 2014 and 59 candidates for superintendent of education in 2018 and five categories were selected for the purpose of analyzing the traits of the superintendent of education candidates : age, gender, occupation, academic background and political tendency. According to the analysis, the average age of a superintendent of education has increased and two female superintendents have been elected since the election of superintendent of Busan in 2010. In the political tendency, In 2014, the progressive superintendent candidates were elected in 13 regions, while in 2018, the progressive superintendent candidates were elected in 14 areas except for three regions. This strong influence of progressive superintendents can be seen as a major factor in the success of candidates unification in 2014, candidates of progressive parties were overwhelmingly elected in the elections for local governments and the political tendency of all 12 current superintendents of education worked because they are all progressive tendency except in Daejeon. In the 2018 election, the percentage of incumbent superintendents elected in the same as the results in the 2014 superintendent election, further research is expected to provide more interesting implications if studies on superintendent of education s current premium are conducted.
