The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of fire performance evaluation simulation in the architectural design of the students in the department of architecture. That is, the effect of building information modeling (BIM) based fire simulation on design decision making in architectural design process. This study investigates how FDSBIM, a fire simulation tool developed through previous projects, has an effect on students design in architectural design process. FDSBIM is a system developed to enable fire 3D simulation of Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) in BIM based authoring tool and to be used for fire simulation in BIM authoring tool. For this purpose, students who participated in the architectural design studio of the third year of architecture course were asked to use FDSBIM in the design project and the questionnaire was conducted. The questionnaire was mainly to evaluate the changes in design decisions made before and after the use of FDSBIM through their own design process and outcomes. Through statistical analysis of the survey results, some statistically significant results were obtained.
