본 연구에서는 시각장애학교 중·고등학생의 영어 학습전략과 교사들의 주된 교수방법을 조사해보고자 하였다. 전국 6개의 시각장애학교에 있는 시각장애 학생 107명의 설문지와 영어교사 15명의 설문지를 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 학생 배경변인에 따른 학습전략의 차이에서 중학생은 고등학생보다 보상전략을, 저시력 학생은 맹학생보다 기억전략을, 후천성 시각장애 학생이 선천성 시각장애 학생보다 기억전략과 인지전략을, 연령대가 높은 경우가 기억전략을 유의미하게 더 많이 사용하는 것으로 나타났다. 시각장애학교 영어교사들은 읽기와 쓰기를 중심으로 수업을 하고 있었고 주로 사용하는 교수학습 유형은 개별수업과 일제수업의 균형 유지가 가장 높게 나타났다. 교사들은 학생지도 시 가장 어려운 점으로 영어회화 구사력의 부족과 다양한 점자 교재의 부족을 들고 있다.
The purpose of this study is to investigate English learning strategies and English teaching methods for the students with visual impairment. One hundred and seven students with visual impairment and fifteen English teachers participated in the study. The findings of this study about English learning strategies and teaching method are as follows: First, middle school students used compensation strategies more frequently than high school students. Low vision students used memory strategies more frequently than blind students. The adventitiously blind used memory strategies and cognitive strategies more frequently than the congenitally blind. The students over 30 years old used memory strategies more frequently than 10~30 years old. Second, English teachers in the school for the blind used reading and writing instruction method more frequently than speaking and listening. Teachers used the individualized and large group instruction methods. English teachers have difficulties in using English conversation and in gaining various braille materials.
