BIM은 기존의 건축에서 사용된 디지털 미디어와는 상당한 차이가 있는 미디어로서 단순한 도구의 사용뿐만 아니라 BIM이 지향하는 건축 산업에 대한 전반적인 이해가 중요시 된다. 이는 새로운 개념의 산업 표준을 지향하는 것으로서 전통적인 디지털 미디어와 전통적인 디자인 방법론에 익숙한 학생들에게는 BIM에 대한 이해와 습득이 쉽지 않다. 게다가 아직까지는 학생들의 상황을 고려한 BIM교육의 가이드라인이 도출되지 않은 상태이기 때문에 다른 기존의 디지털 미디어를 가르치는 방식(기능중심의 기본적인 Tool 사용교육 등)으로 BIM교육이 전개되고 있는 실정이다. 본 연구는 이와 같은 관점에서 올바른 BIM교육이 정착을 위하여 시작되었다. 즉, BIM을 새로이 접하는 학생들이 어떠한 점에서 어려움을 겪고 있으며 효과적인 교육을 위하여 어떠한 방법이 필요시 되는가를 조사하고 분석하여 향후 효과적인 BIM교육이 이루어지는데 기여하고자 한다. 연구의 결과에 따르면 프로젝트의 규모, 사용범위, 상세도 등에 따라 활용의 난이도가 높아질 수 있기 때문에 BIM 교육은 기존의 디지털 모델링 도구의 기능중심의 일회성 교육보다는 프로젝트에 기반을 둔 병행적인 교육방식이 적합하다고 할 수 있다.
BIM(Building Information Modeling) is a media that is quite different from the digital media used in existing architecture, and it is important to understand not only functions of BIM tools but also the overall concept of the building industry based on BIM. It is aimed at a new idea of industry standard, and it is not easy for students who are familiar with traditional digital media and traditional design methodology to understand and acquire BIM. In addition, since BIM education guidelines have not yet been drawn up in consideration of the students situation, BIM education is being developed as a way of teaching other existing digital media (such as basic tool usage training based on functions). This study has begun to establish the proper BIM education in this viewpoint. In other words, I would like to contribute to the effective BIM education in the future by investigating and analyzing the ways in which new students who are new to BIM are experiencing difficulties and effective education. According to the results of the study, the difficulty of using the project according to the scale, scope, and detail of the project can be increased. Therefore, BIM education based project is more suitable than the one-time education based on the functions of the existing digital modeling tools.
