이 연구는 컴퓨터 환경에서 한글 단어를 처리할 때 다양한 강조기법의 강조 효과를 비교하였다. 단어재인과제에서 참가자는 네 단어로 구성된 제시목록을 본 뒤 이어 제시된 표적 단어에 대해 단어 목록에 있었는지 여부를 판단하였다. 실험 1에서는 컴퓨터 환경에서 많이 사용되는 6가지 강조기법의 효과를 비교하였다(크기, 굵기, 글자색, 기울기, 글자배경색, 밑줄). 전반적으로 강조 효과를 관찰했지만, 강조 효과의 크기는 기법에 따라 차이가 있었으며, 특히 크기와 굵기 기법이 다른 기법들에 비해 상대적으로 큰 강조 효과를 보였다. 실험 2에서는 크기와 굵기 기법을 함께 적용한 혼합 기법과 크기 또는 굵기 중 하나의 기법만을 적용한 단일 기법 조건의 강조 효과를 비교하였다. 강조효과의 크기는 혼합 기법과 단일 기법에서 유사하게 나타났으며, 혼합 기법의 이득을 보이지 않았다. 본 연구 결과는 컴퓨터 환경에서 한글단어를 처리할 때 강조기법이 도움이 되며, 그 효과 정도는 적용되는 기법에 따라 다르게 나타날 수 있음을 시사한다.
This study investigated effects of various highlighting techniques in processing Hangul words on the computer. Participants saw a list of four words, followed by a target word. They judged whether the target word was in the list. Experiment 1 compared the effects of six types of highlighting (big, bold, color, italic, mark, and underline). The magnitude of highlighting effects varied depending on the type of techniques. Big and bold techniques showed relatively larger effects than other techniques. Experiment 2 compared the mixed effect of two techniques (big and bold techniques were used together) with the single effect of two techniques (either big or bold technique was used). The magnitude of highlighting effects was similar in the single and mixed conditions. The present results suggest that highlighting techniques are helpful in recognizing Hangul words on the computer, and the magnitude of highlighting effects vary depending on the type and use of techniques.
