The purpose of this study is to investigate influencing factors smartphone addiction among nursing students focusing on empathy, interpersonal competence and conflict-resolution styles. The data were collected from 435 nursing students using structured questionnaires from September 1, 201 5 to December 31, 2015. The results of this study showed that a number of smartphone addiction combining potential risk group and high risk group is 24.1%. The score were 2.30 point for smartphone addiction, 2.62 point for interpersonal competence and 4.92 point for conflict-resolution styles. The score of empathy level in the subcategories were 3.61 point for fantasy, 3.56 point for empathic concern, 3.66 point for perspective taking, 3.66 point for personal distress.\nInfluencing factors on smartphone addiction among nursing students identified personal distress, conflict resolution style, reading quantity, daily average time of smartphone use and perception smartphone usage restriction. Therefore, in order to prevent or improve smartphone addiction of nursing students, it is necessary to recognize and manage the level of personal distress and conflict resolution style, and to take special care when the reading quantity is small, or daily average time of smartphone use is long.
