The English article is an unfamiliar grammatical system for Koreans, while for native speakers, they are used unconsciously. This is because the difference in meaning in Korean language does not matter whether an article is used or not, and does not require classification according to the countableness of a noun. Therefore, this study examined the classification of nouns of the representative scholars Jespersen and Christophersen for consistent use of the articles and then discussed the theories of the articles accordingly. First of all, Jespersen is a theory of familiarity, and the first step is used the indefinite article as a unfamiliar phase , and the second step is almost familiar and it is said that when the noun is clearly known, the definite article is written in front of the noun. The third step was to say that completely familiar should be used as the zero article. Christophersen s theory states that the definite article is an article of familiarity, and that the indefinite article is an article of unity, and when the speaker s knowledge of words begins as an activity, the concept of words is formed in his mind. This thesis was presented that an effective article teaching method was described on the basis of usages of articles in order to reduce the errors of article usage.
