본 연구는 지방 소재의 한 초등학교에서 책을 읽어주는 엄마들을 대상으로 표적 집단 인터뷰를 실시하여 자원봉사가 여가가 될 수 있는 사례를 살펴보는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 먼저 윤소영(2007)에 의해 소개된 사회성 여가의 개념을 Stebbins(1992)에 의해 발전된 진지한 여가의 한 유형으로서 자원봉사형 여가의 관점에서 비판적으로 조명한다. 연구결과 자모들의 책 읽어 주기는 동시성, 유연성, 주체성 등을 가지고 있다는 점에서 사회성 여가의 특성을 지니고 있다는 점을 알 수 있었다. 자모들의 책 읽어주기는 또한 진지한 여가의 한 유형으로서 자원봉사형 여가의 특성 즉 이타적인 동기, 경력개발과 간헐적인 어려움, 지식과 기술의 습득, 사회 심리적 편익의 경험, 하위문화의 발전, 자아정체성 확인이라는 특성을 가지고 있음도 알 수 있었다. 이는 자모들의 책 읽어주기가 자원봉사형 여가의 좋은 사례가 됨을 보여주는 것이라 할 수 있다. 본 연구의 결과는 학부모 독서회의 책 읽어주기에 대한 정부차원의 행재정적 지원에 대한 필요성을 보여준다.
This study is to investigate a case of serious social leisure using a focus group interview of eight reading moms in a elementary school, Korea. First, we critically examined the concept of social leisure(Yoon, 2007) from the career volunteering perspective as a type of serious leisure(Stebbins, 1992 2001). Then, we investigated if moms' reading in the elementary school could be considered as a good example of the social leisure and career volunteering a serious leisure. Results show that moms' reading had the typical characteristic of social leisure in the sense that the participants had altruistic motivations. Moms' reading also had many characteristics of serious leisure in terms of career, costs, rewards, and self identity. Based on these results, we proposed moms' reading as a good example of serious social leisure. Several points were made from the point of social leisure policy implementation in Korea.
