This paper determined, from a theoretical point of view, the fundamental
elements or characteristics of ‘transformation’ as an archetypal concept. Based
on the concept of “transformation” as defined in established research, this
paper distilled the salient elements to form, will, and being, and then
examined the various issues associated with these characteristics. As a result,
it was determined that transformation as an archetypal concept was
fundamentally characterized by these three elements of form, will, and being.
Accordingly, in understanding transformation tales, as well as in understanding
transformation itself as an archetypal concept, it is necessary to consider and
understand the organic relationship existing between these three elements. The
phenomenological study of transformation as an archetypal concept will
naturally be focused on the practical philosophy of the body, or ‘philosophy
of body,’ but if we do not consider the remaining issues―that is, the issues
of will and being―transformation will lack any meaning at all.
