본고는 <지장본풀이>가 지닌 무속신화로서의 서사적 의미와 서사무가로서의 제의적 속 성을 연결시키려는 시도에서 마련된 글이다. 이를 위해 의미 파악에 가장 기본이 되는 텍스 트를 기반으로 서사의 구성방식과 의미 그리고 그 속에서 나타나는 ‘지장’의 성격을 파악하 였다. 반복되는 사건과 그 속에서 유추되는 지장의 ‘죽음’ 혹은 ‘부정(不淨)’의 속성은 <지장 본풀이>의 제의적 맥락이 되는 제주도의 시왕맞이와 거무영청대전상과 무관하지 않다. 하 나의 텍스트가 각기 다른 목적을 지닌 굿에서 각기 다른 의미로 구연되는 것은 <지장본풀 이>가 지니고 있는 신화적 특수성이라고 여겨진다. 또한 이러한 제의적 맥락에 앞서 ‘지장’이 가지고 있는 특성도 무시할 수 없다. 여타 다 른 무속신화 주인공들처럼 선신(善神)으로 좌정할 수 없었던 그녀의 자질은 <지장본풀이> 가 속한 제주도 일반신본풀이의 체계 속에서 더욱 확연히 드러난다. <지장본풀이>는 이야기 짜임새의 특성과 주인공의 변별되는 자질 그리고 구송되는 굿 의 제차에서 지니는 이중적인 제의적 기능 때문에 다른 본풀이들과 변별되는 특수성을 지 닌 텍스트라 볼 수 있다.
This thesis is intended to connect narrative meanings as shaman myth with ritual properties as shaman song of Jijangbonpuri. Especially has a grasp of the constituent method and meanings of narratives, and the character of Jijang revealed in Jijangbonpuri. The properties of death and dirtiness of Jijang analogized in the repeated accidents are concerned with Siwangamji and Geomuyoungcheongdaejeonsang of Jeju island which become the ritual context of Jijangbonpuri. It is considered as the mythical distinctiveness of Jijangbonpuri that a single text is narrated as different meanings in the different orders of shaman ritual. Besides, the characteristic properties of Jijang can’t neglected prior to the ritual context. The characteristic property that Jijang couldn’t be a good god unlike the main characters in the other shaman myths is clearly shown up in the system of general god bonpuri. Jijangbonpuri has its own distinctiveness because of the properties of narrative sturucture, distinguishable qualities of main character and dual-use ritual functions in the order of shaman ritual.
