This thesis is intended to connect narrative meanings as shaman myth with
ritual properties as shaman song of Jijangbonpuri. Especially has a grasp of
the constituent method and meanings of narratives, and the character of Jijang
revealed in Jijangbonpuri. The properties of death and dirtiness of Jijang
analogized in the repeated accidents are concerned with Siwangamji and
Geomuyoungcheongdaejeonsang of Jeju island which become the ritual
context of Jijangbonpuri. It is considered as the mythical distinctiveness of
Jijangbonpuri that a single text is narrated as different meanings in the different
orders of shaman ritual.
Besides, the characteristic properties of Jijang can’t neglected prior to the
ritual context. The characteristic property that Jijang couldn’t be a good god
unlike the main characters in the other shaman myths is clearly shown up
in the system of general god bonpuri.
Jijangbonpuri has its own distinctiveness because of the properties of narrative sturucture, distinguishable qualities of main character and dual-use
ritual functions in the order of shaman ritual.
