The shamanist myths of Korea and Manchuria have the universality that
there are many goddesses in it. But Manchurian shamanist myths contain rich
mythemes and the initiative of goddess more than Korean myths. Because of
these characteristics, Manchurian myths can be a mirror that shows us the past
of Korean myths.
Taraihanmama & Duolunggege, the matriarchs of Manchurian myths
devoted herself to her tribe without a price or a return present. As a result,
they became the matriarch and goddess. And then Korean shamanist myths
have the same principle as a goddess create good things by self-sacrifice.
Baridegi saved her father(or parents) by self-sacrifice, and after that she
became a goddess in the next world. Gameunjangaegi saved her parents who
kicked her out in home, too. There was no expectation about something
return. Here is the paradox that an abandoned woman saves a human(or man)
who abandons. This is the principle in goddess, as it is called ‘pure donation’.
