우리나라는 세계적으로 가장 빠른 경제발전을 이룩한 국가로 인정받고 있다. 그러나 아울러 가장 빠르게 노령화가 진행되고 있는 국가이기도 하다. 이러한 추세에서 성장잠재력을 가지고 왕성한 경제활동을 하던 청장년층이 노인이 되면 서 그간 가지고 있던 여러 가지를 차례로 상실해가고 있다. 그것은 그들이 노인 이 되면서 남의 주목을 받지 못하고 차별당하는 ‘에이지즘(ageism, 노인차별)’의 시기가 된 것을 의미하고, 따라서 노인 스스로도 자아존중감이 상실되는 것을 당연시하는 풍조를 체념 중에 받아들이고 있었다는 것을 의미한다. 상대적으로 젊은 타인이 ‘노인들에게 행하는 부정적 태도와 행동’을 고령자 차 별대우라고 말하며, 주요 원인은 외모에서 발생될 수 있다. “사람들은 노인과 밀 접한 관계를 맺지 않으려 하기 때문에 노인들은 자신을 가꿀 필요성을 적게 느 끼고 소외감을 느낀다.”(Kligman, 2004:37). 젊음과 아름다움에 비하여 늙음과 흉 함에서 오는 자신이 느끼는 심리적인 위축감은 평정심과 확신감을 잃게 한다. “늙음에서 오는 외모는 사회교류에서 자기 존중감을 현저히 떨어뜨리는 주요한 원인이 된다. 특히 얼굴에 생긴 상처(주름 포함)는 보이지 않는 곳에 있는 상처 보다 감정적으로 피해를 더 많이 준다.”(Kligman, 2004:26-27).
This study focuses on women \'the very old(75～89)\' and aims to identify a self-esteem on social psychological factors. The data was collected and analyzed 40 women \'the very old\' from senior sanatorium in Yangcheon-gu, Seoul from August 1st 2010 to September 30th. The question were composed of beauty concern, demographic characteristics, self-esteem. For this study, the data used frequency analysis, t-test and One-way ANOVA, x2-test, Duncan\'s multiple range test, K-means cluster analysis, Cronbach’s alpha, factor analysis, correlations with SPSS WIN 16.0 program. The results of the survey are summarized below: In the result of social-psychological variable by beauty concern factor, there were significant differences in nail factor, skin factor, hair factor, and makeup factor. Self-esteem was named as positive self-esteem and negative self-esteem by beauty concern group. Between self-esteem and beauty concern factors, showed skin and hair have positive effect to positive self-esteem and have negative effect to negative self-esteem. In conclusion, it is the most effect means that the cosmetic therapy to women \'the very old(75～89) lived in the various limited sanatorium lifts their self-esteem.
