The purpose of this study was to investigate the process of overcoming the loss through the sand play, and to explore the therapeutic effect of the sand play, on who saw with her own eyes her mother's suicide. The subject was a 10-year-old-girl who lost her mother one week ago. The subject lost her mother, and her father was a foreign stepfather. The maternal aunt of the subject asked the therapy, and 37 sessions were implemented during 14 months. She has overcome the severe depression through the sandplay, has strengthened the ego, and finally has sought after the self. She integrated the consciousness and the unconsciousness through the process of the alchemy in the reliable relationship with the therapist. In conclusion, the sandplay was effective to support the subject's lamentation, to support the process of seeking after the self in the severe trauma of losing.
