The purpose of this study was to explore the effect of group art therapy through the plastic activity on an overall and a subordinate factor in stress of adolescents. The design of the study was group pretest-posttest control group design. The subject were 20 students
in S woman's high school in Daegu. They were randomly divided and assigned into an
experimental group of ten and control group of ten. The program was composed of ten classes. Each class had 100 minutes working time and 10 minutes rest time. The program
run for ten-weeks (one days a week). The evaluation tool for the present study was stress
check list used by Jung Hee-Young(2001). To verify the effectiveness of the program, the
data were processed with the t-test and paired t-test.
The results of this study are as follows;
First, The group art therapy through the plastic activity alleviated psychological․physical
tension and negative emotion improved psychological stabilization, self-respect and problemsolving ability. Also, it was effective at moderate the stress by obtaining the sympathy and support of the same age. Observe the reduction total effect on the stress of adolescents
through group art therapy through the plastic activity.
Second, On the stress at the school life of adolescents, Group art therapy through the plastic
activity had positive effect such as the decease of stress on the adaptability and the relation
with teacher at the school. It was effective at deceasing on the stress at the personal
relations problem caused by the relation with their friends and help to connect relationship.
On the stress of personal problem, Group art therapy through the plastic activity had an
positive effect on physical and physiological problem caused by identity and independence.
On the environment problem of adolescents, Group art therapy through the plastic activity
alleviated the stress on physical and social environments. However Group art therapy through the plastic activity didn't have some effect on the stress at the home from the relationship with parents, brothers and sisters.
In short, group art therapy through the plastic activity employed in this study seemed to have beneficial effect on decrease in stress of adolescents.
