본 연구는 노인들을 대상으로 나무그림과 자아통합감의 관련성을 파악함으로써 나무그림 검사가 자아통합감을 진단할 수 있는 진단도구로서의 가능성이 있는 지를 알아보는 데 그 목적이 있다. 연 구대상은 노인대학, 노인복지관을 이용하는 경산시에 거주하는 60세 이상의 노인 278명이며, 연구도 구는 자아통합감 척도와 나무그림 검사이다. 자료 분석은 상관관계분석, 교차분석, 검정과 일원변량 분석을 사용하였고, 사후검증으로 Scheffé test를 실시하였다. 본 연구의 주요결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 노인의 자아통합감은 보통 수준인 것으로 나타났으며, 성별에 따라 유의한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타나 여자가 남자보다 자아통합감이 높게 나타났다. 둘 째, 수평구조와 나무 크기에서 성별에 따라 유의한 차이가 나타났는데, 남자가 여자보다 나무를 상 단에 그린 비율이 더 높았고, 여자는 남자보다 나무를 작게 그린 비율이 더 높았다. 셋째, 노인의 자 아통합감은 나무 크기, 잎, 나무 나이-묘화자 나이, 전체조화성에서 유의한 차이가 났다. 그리고 노 인의 나무그림 반응특성에 따른 자아통합감은 성별에 따라 유의한 차이가 나타났다. 이 같은 연구결과는 나무그림검사가 자아통합감을 진단할 수 있는 도구로서의 가능성을 시사해 준 다.
The purpose of this study was to check if there is relationship between elderly's ego integrity and their reactions to the Tree Drawing. The subjects for the study were 278 elderly people over 60 years of age, who were residing in Gyeongsan city. Data collected were processed via SPSS WIN program(ver. 12.0) and analyzed by factor analysis, correlation analysis, Chi-square test, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Scheffé test for follow-up verification. The results were as follows. First, the elderly's degree of ego integrity was average on the whole. Ego integrity was found to be statistically different according to the elderly's gender. Second, reactions among the elderly to 'a horizontal structure' and 'the size of tree' of the Tree Drawing differed according to their gender. Third, ego integrity of the elderly was significantly different depending on 'the size of tree', 'leaves', 'the age of tree-the age of artist', 'the total harmony of the drawing' in the Tree Drawing.
