The purposes of this study were to examine the effects of group art therapy on the elderly people's ego integrity and death anxiety. The subjects for this study were 8 elderly people(female) who resided at home, and affiliated to welfare centers for the aged in Gyeongsan city. Their age ranged from 68 to 84, and they volunteered to participate in this program. Total 21 sessions of a group therapy were given to them from October to December of 2007, with 2 sessions a week and each lasting 90 minutes. Research instruments employed for analysis are pre-test, post-test and follow-up test for each of Measure for ego integrity and death anxiety. The data were analyzed with SAS program, and repeated measurements of One-Way ANOVA, and Scheffe test were utilized. The main findings of the study were as follows. First, it is shown that group art therapy is effective to improve the elderly people's ego integrity. According to repeated measurements of One-Way ANOVA on the elderly's ego integrity, there has been a significant difference exhibited by the total score(F=18.69, p=0.0001) and by the sub-scores of life attitude(F=16.95, p=0.0002) and past-present acception(F=111.07, p=0.0013). That is, the elderly people's ego integrity have been improved by the group art therapy program. Second, group art therapy is effective to reduce elderly's death anxiety. According to repeated measurements of One-Way ANOVA on the elderly's death anxiety. there has been a significant difference exhibited by the total score(F=20.28, p=0.0001) and by the sub-scores of death process anxiety(F=15.15, p=0.0003), the presence loss anxiety(F=16.89, p=0.0002) and after-death anxiety(10.24, p=0.0018). That is, the elderly people's death anxiety have been reduced by the group art therapy program.
