\"Since 2002, in South Korea, braille transcribers and proofreaders have been certified as an identical profession. The purpose of this study was to propose the directions for improving the current certification system of braille transcribers/proofreaders. American and Japanese certification systems were respectively presented. Based on the data collected using del phi method, this study proposed to improve Korean certification as follows: documenting the difference between transcription and proofreading, grading the level of certificate based on the kind of subject passed, including Japanese as one of the subjects tested, lowering the academic requirements of the applicants for the second grade of certification tests, developing a manual for test takers, managing the level of difficulty of test items, selecting accessible test sites to the maximum, notifying correct answers publicly, exempting some of documents for reapplicants, and implementing the quota for employing the certified transcribers/proofreaders in related agencies.
