본 연구는 한국의 가족구성원과 노인들의 가족관계망을 분석하고 이것이 가족과 노인의 삶에 어떤 영향을 주는 지 살펴보았으며, 세계적으로 노년층 인구가 급증하는 가운데 노인들은 단순히 부양부담집단으로 보지 말고 가족구성원의 일원으로 노인에 대한 역할이 무엇이고 반대로 노인들이 가족을 위해 참여할 수 있는 역할과 구체적인 영역 및 방법들을 다루고 있다. 그 내용으로는 첫째, 우리나라 노인의 사회적 특성을 고찰해 봄으로써 가족복지 활동에 참가할 의향이 있음을 밝히고 있었다. 둘째, 우리나라 가족의 사회구조적 특성을 살펴보았다. 셋째, 노인들이 가족복지를 증진시키기 위한 구체적인 활동의 참여내용 및 형태를 살펴보았다.
"The main purpose of this study is to analyze family relation network among family members and the aged people in Korea, and the effect of the network upon the people in their twilight ages. I also tries to find the ways for elderly people to become a member of family not just a dependant or burden of family and what role in what areas they can do for family. First, we can see that the elderly people have intent to takes part in family welfare activities through contemplating social traits of old people of Korea.
