"This study was to examine the effect of a group counseling program based on the MBTI for parents on self-esteem and parenting Attitude of multicultural families mothers. For this study, 24 mothers of multicultural family were enlisted in B city in Gyeonggi-do. 12 subjects were assigned into the experimental group while a no-treatment control group was composed of 12 subjects. 10 sessions of 90minutes group counseling program based on the MBTI organized for mothers of multicultural families was offered to the experiment group. ANOVA were used as a method to assess effect of program after Pre-test, Post-test of the mothers' self-esteem scale, and children rearing attitude scale. The results are as follows: First, the experimental group mothers`self-esteem changed toward a positive direction. Thus by a group counseling program based on the MBTI for parents, the mothers of multicultural families improved their perception of their inborn character, recognized their personality's worth, and the program has a helping realization of their
personality's potentialities. Furthermore, through helping them understand the characteristics of their own personality type as well as another member's personality, attained positive self-acceptance and it increased their sense of identity and dignity as a person. Second, the program provided different parenting styles according to their personality types, it helped mothers to increase their self-confidence in parenting. Thus the program has a helping effect for the affective, open, and positive parenting attitude. It helped mothers to increase their positive parenting attitude for enhancing self-control, responsibility of children's instead of controled, interfering parenting attitude. In addition, it has meaningful results of a group counseling program based on the MBTI for parents on self-esteem and parenting attitude of multicultural families mothers as well as Korean mothers, thereby proving Jung's psychological typology that explained preference is universally accepted even if they have different cultural background. As a result, a group counseling program based on the MBTI for parents is expected to be a effective program for solving various social problems because of increasing of multicultural families by understanding, training proper parenting attitude of multicultural families mothers, and improving self-esteems of multicultural families mothers.
